Filaflex 2.20 System: New Standard in Flexible 3D Printing | Recreus

by Cristina Hernandez 26 Nov 2025

The Flexible Revolution Unveiled at Formnext 2025: Meet the New Filaflex 2.20 System

After an intense and thrilling week at Formnext 2025 — where ideas truly took shape — we’re still overwhelmed by the incredible response. The reason? The official launch of our groundbreaking Filaflex 2.20 System, a new flexible printing standard that changes everything. Hundreds of curious professionals gathered at our booth to witness it live — and the message was clear: Flexible 3D printing is no longer slow.

A New Era in Flexible 3D Printing: The Filaflex 2.20 System

Flexible materials like TPU and TPE have always been challenging to print — slow, jam-prone, unstable. At Recreus, we've spent 13 years developing a true solution. The result: the Filaflex 2.20 System, a unique platform combining:

  • A newly engineered 2.20 mm flexible filament that enhances feed strength and flow stability.
  • A high-performance custom hotend built for fast, clog-free extrusion.
  • Full compatibility with standard 1.75 mm rigid materials — no hardware changes needed.

Plug-and-play and ready for any setup. Just load and print.

Why 2.20 mm and Not 2.85? The Geometry Behind the Revolution

Traditional filament diameters — 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm — each have trade-offs when printing flexible materials:

  • 1.75 mm: great for precision, but easily buckles under compression at high speeds.
  • 2.85 mm: more rigid, but melts slowly due to excessive thermal mass, causing extrusion issues.

The solution wasn’t to go bigger or smaller — but to find the sweet spot. That’s where 2.20 mm comes in.

  • +58% cross-sectional area vs. 1.75 mm — stronger push without bending.
  • 2.3× greater buckling resistance — prevents jams at high feed rates.
  • Same thermal efficiency as 1.75 mm — fast, even melting.

In short: 2.20 mm combines the best of both worlds, unlocking high-speed flexible printing once thought impossible.

Tested. Proven. Fast.

Over 1,000 hours of continuous printing with TPU, PLA, and PETG show what this system can do:

  • Filaflex 60A → 3.7× faster
  • Filaflex 70A → 3.3× faster
  • Filaflex 82A / Foamy → 2.3× faster
  • Filaflex 95A / Foamy → 2.4× faster

Fully compatible with leading printers:

  • Bambu Lab: P1P, P1S, X1 Carbon (more in progress)
  • Prusa Research: MK4, Prusa XL, Core One

Formnext 2025: The Launch That Turned Heads

The official launch at Formnext 2025 was an unforgettable moment. Hundreds gathered around the Recreus booth to witness what flexible 3D printing can truly become. From surprise to disbelief to excitement — the reactions were clear:

“This changes everything.”
“Flexible now works at production speed.”
“Can’t believe it runs on a stock Prusa — no mods!”

Thanks to everyone who joined us. Your enthusiasm confirmed what we’ve been building for years.

What Becomes Possible Now?

This leap in speed and reliability opens up scalable production for applications that once took too long to be viable:

  • Technical footwear and cushioning
  • Soft robotics
  • Orthotics and prosthetics
  • Wearables and sports gear
  • Industrial dampeners and sealing components
