Install the 2.20 Hotend on your Prusa Core-one+ / Core-one L

More control, maximum stability, and zero drama with flexible filaments.

1. Introduction

This isn’t just a new nozzle. It’s the Filaflex 2.20 System: a larger internal diameter designed to prevent flexible filaments from compressing and losing drive. In this guide, we will transform your Prusa Core-one+ / Core-one L to print flexibles with industrial stability while maintaining 100% compatibility with standard 1.75mm rigid filaments.

🔴 SAFETY: Mandatory stop to avoid accidents.

3. Step by Step Hardware Installation

Follow this detailed sequence to integrate the Filaflex 2.20 system into your Prusa Core ONE/+/L. Each step is designed to ensure precision and ease of assembly. The process is as simple as a traditional nozzle change, followed by specific adjustments that unlock industrial-grade flexible printing. Take your time, follow the icons, and transform your machine into a high-performance powerhouse for flexibles.

Step 1: Filament Unloading

If your printer has any filament loaded, unload it before changing the nozzle.
Control → Filament → Unload filament

Step 2: Lower the Heatbed

Lower the bed: Before powering off, move the Z-axis down (100 mm or more) to have a comfortable working space.

Control → Move axis → Move Z → 100 mm or more

Wait for the bed to lower and provide the necessary space to work.

Step 3: Power off, Unplug, and Remove the Top Cover

Turn off the printer using the rear switch and unplug the power cable.

Image

Locate the nylon rivets and remove the top cover for clear access from above.

Image
Step 4: Release the Feeding PTFE Tube

Remove the feeding Teflon tube by pressing the fitting (collet) that releases it.

Image

🔴 SAFETY: Remember that the printer must not have any filament loaded.

Step 5: Remove Original Hotend

Loosen the two side screws holding the hotend in position.

🟢 INFO: No tools are needed for this; it can be done by hand.

Image

Release the hotend. You have two options: disconnect everything (following the Prusa guide) or simply unscrew the nozzle carefully without disconnecting cables.

🔴 SAFETY: Remember the printer must be unplugged, cold, and with the bed lowered.

🔵 PRO TIP: Use the tools included with your printer (Universal wrench, Wrench 13-16) to slightly loosen the nozzle and finish unscrewing it by hand.

Image

Now that the hotend can be moved, it's time to loosen the nozzle from the block using the tools provided with your 3D printer.

Image

🔴 SAFETY: Be careful with the wires to protect the connections and avoid damaging them.

The nozzle is now released. It’s time to install the new Recreus 2.20 nozzle, compatible with both 1.75 mm and 2.20 mm filaments,
allowing you to print flexibles like never before.

🔵 PRO TIP: Keep your original nozzle in a safe place.

Step 6: Install the Recreus 2.20 Hotend

Prepare your new Recreus 2.20 hotend/nozzle included in the kit.

Image

Insert the nozzle into the heater block from the bottom and screw it in by hand until you can't go further.

🟢 INFO: Remember you can follow the official Prusa guide and disconnect the entire block for easier handling.

Image

Give it a final gentle tighten to secure it and place the hotend back in its natural position, tightening the two side screws by hand.

Replace the silicone sock.

Step 7: Extruder Tension Adjustment

🟢 INFO: This is the key step that makes the difference for flexibles.

Locate the two spring-loaded screws at the top.

Image

Using an Allen key, loosen the extruder screws by 2 full turns.

Image

🟢 INFO: Less pressure = fewer marks, less friction, and better grip. Soft materials won't get crushed.

🔵 PRO TIP: This new tension setting is 100% compatible with 1.75mm rigid filaments; you don't need to revert it later.

Step 8: Load, Purge, and Unload

Insert the 2.20 filament through the side tube. If you have the Core One +/L, use the internal button to release the sensor and push better.

Image

Turn on the printer and go to the material loading menu. Select "Flexible".

Image Image

Load the filament, put the PTFE tube back in place, and perform a purge to ensure a clean path.
🔵 PRO TIP: If the purge comes out continuously... you are 90% of the way to success.

Image

For filament unloading, keep the following steps in mind:
🔴 SAFETY: For material unloading, the printer performs a sequence that can cause jams. Therefore, follow these steps:

Release the extruder idler/lever.

Image

Perform the normal unload from the screen.

Image

Once the sequence is finished, remove the filament normally.
🟢 INFO: By releasing the lever, you eliminate the movements made by the unloading sequence, avoiding potential issues.
🔵 PRO TIP: If the purge comes out as a continuous thread... you're at 90% success!
