Chiara Ravaioli and the 3D Printed Handbag That Redefines Elegance with Filaflex 95 Foamy

by Cristina Hernandez 02 Jul 2025

Chiara Ravaioli – Italian Elegance Meets Flexible Innovation

With the Jali Bag, designer Chiara Ravaioli explores the power of material and form to redefine fashion accessories. Inspired by Indian architecture and crafted in Filaflex 95 Foamy, the result is a 3D printed piece where beauty meets innovation.

Chiara Ravaioli was born in Ravenna, Italy, in 1993. She studied Spatial Design at the University of the Arts London and bought her first 3D printer in 2017. By 2019, she had founded Fornice Objects, a studio focused on bridging craftsmanship and digital fabrication using sustainable materials.

Her work blends interior architecture, material research, and object design—often using biodegradable or recyclable materials like hemp and resin. Today, she leads her studio from the exhibition space Le Cantine di Palazzo Rava in Ravenna.

Design Concept: The Jali Bag

The Jali Bag takes inspiration from the carved lattice screens of Indian mashrabiya architecture, particularly the white marble details of the Taj Mahal. Its geometric form plays with light and shadow, offering both structural elegance and sculptural volume.

Printed in Filaflex 95 Foamy, the bag achieves a soft, flexible texture with a matte rubber-like finish. This unique filament allowed Chiara to create a bag that feels tactile and natural—less like plastic and more like leather. Every detail, from its foam-like texture to the delicate curves, invites touch.

“What about wearing a Fornice Objects vase?” The Jali Bag reimagines her sculptural home objects into wearable design.

Exhibited at Formnext 2024

The Jali Bag was showcased at the Recreus stand during Formnext 2024, where it quickly became one of the most photographed and admired pieces of the event.

Exhibited at Formnext 2024 — the Jali Bag became an icon of innovation and elegance.

The response was overwhelming. Attendees were drawn to its aesthetic and materiality—so much so that, on the final day of the fair, the bag was unfortunately stolen from the stand.

New Iterations in Warm Tones

Chiara continues to evolve the Jali Bag with new earthy tones that enhance its sculptural qualities. A recent version in warm brown perfectly mimics the elegance of leather, while maintaining the lightweight comfort and flexibility of Filaflex.

From Objects to Fashion

Originally known for her Mumbai Vases, Chiara translated her signature design language into fashion. The Jali Bag is her most wearable expression so far—crafted with the same care and detail.
